The Battle of Ditch Bayou was fought in Chicot County in 1864  as the confederates  had been harassing union river traffic even after Vicksburg fell  the year before.  3000 federalists tried to stop the 700 confederates under General Marmaduke.  The  union lost 131; rebels- 4 killed and 31 wounded. Rebels ran low on ammo and retreated but lived to continue harassing  union river traffic for another year  It was the last major battle in Arkansas.
