Shrimp Market

Started the morning with bad news -Rene's 10 year old grandson diagnosed with a rare cancer in his knee. They're at Mayo- more tests till Monday, then radiation before surgery. Is that what Matt Siegle had at age 16? Prayers, please.

Sam's Club for some supplies- canned air, packaged in 3 can-I'd better think of more uses besides blowing out the DVD player - although it now plays movies on both the front and the back bedroom TV - first thing we've seen on the front TV besides bug races. We also got King Cake -this gaudy cake has more food glitter than a person uses at home in a year.

We want to find fresh shrimp and West Wego was the spot we were told. Between Alice and the waitress at the great local dive we found for lunch, we hit paydirt -shrimp galore at a fish market ( like a flea market or farmers market. In their coolers the ladies have iced down shrimp sorted by size, priced from $2.50/# for small to $6 for jumbo. Also saw some blue crabs but that looked like too much work. The little meat market there had every kind of fish boil spice and homemade sausages. The trip isn't complete without exploring the boats by the market.

We had to buy a cooler so a trip to Dollar General, Cass got a couple totes and back for 20# of jumbos for $100 and she supplied all the ice plus the tip how to grill them. Fresh pineapple between the skewered shrimp and brush with butter. We're going back for more--Awesome!

Had some of the King Cake for dessert - it's good. If you get the little plastic baby hidden in the cake, you will have good luck and you have to buy the cake for next year, --or next week, if at the office. We had praline, but a clerk recommended Bavarian, if we can find it.
